The judges say Rule 112 of the state’s criminal court procedures specifically prohibits electronic transmissions from courtrooms.

Despite that, some judges in the county and elsewhere have been allowing such communication. this month, a district judge in Greensburg let a TV reporter blog during a murder hearing, and a Dauphin County Court judge has let reporters use Twitter to send messages from the public corruption trial of former State Rep. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart would have been delighted to see the buzz the new Twilight new Moon DVD created last night. The parties all across the country were well attended and even here in Los Angeles, there was no shortage of Twilight fun.

Last night at the stroke of midnight I was at the local Walmart to see the masses rush in for the new DVD, Twilight new Moon. Well, I didn’t see the masses, instead I was actually engulfed in them.

People were in the store around 10:30, mulling and waiting for the DVD to be sold. Closer to midnight more people came and at one point, it was so loud that the squeals of delight in the room absorbed all the free space. At 11:20ish the store seemed packed and there were people also mulling around outside, hoping a few DVD’s would be left for them too.

The Twilight new Moon DVD flew off the shelves at midnight and there wasn’t a Team Edward or Team Jacob member who didn’t get one. In fact there were a few left over if any late people arrived, but who stuck around to find out as those who bought the DVD were on the way home to watch it.

When Rob Fisher lost his job last year as a result of NASCAR mergers, he decided to turn one of his lifetime goals into a reality.

“There are only two ways I can think clearly,” he said. “Either sitting in a tree stand or sitting in a boat.”

Fisher, of Salisbury, was out on the water with his father in April, discussing his dream to design his own fishing lure and see it in stores.

Fisher set a goal to have a fishing lure ready for stores by spring 2010, and he has done just that. he named his company Lil’ Robbies Soft Baits, made completely in the United States.

“Nowadays, it seems like everything comes from overseas,” Fisher said. “I wanted to do everything in the U.S. and keep it cheap for the fishermen.

“My other goal was to sell the end product at $2 a bag.”

Fisher designed the lure himself.

“I kind of had an idea of what I wanted, and wanted something different I hadn’t seen,” he said, noting that his lure was modeled after a crawdad. “I made my own prototype out of metal and found an established company to pour the bait.”

The company used his prototype to make a mold and sent him several samples.

“I fished with it, I liked it, and I gave them the OK to make a production mold,” Fisher said.

Fisher then chose the color combinations for the 15 lures he offers, saying he chose them “just knowing what seems to work pretty good,” he said. “Most fishermen know.”

Colors include black, red, orange, silver and red glitter, and color combos such as pink and green.

Through many phone calls and a lot of research, Fisher said, he found what he needed in the United States.

“People were telling me how much money I’d save if I got it from China, but I knew the quality of the product would suffer, and I wanted to help out our local and national businesses,” he said.

Fisher even found a plastic-bag manufacturer in the United States.

“If I ever have a problem, I can drive to these companies if I need to,” he said.

Fisher said he still wants to race with NASCAR but is glad he took a chance on his fisherman’s dream.

“Being off has given me time to do this,” he said. “I’ve already met my ultimate goal by seeing my product in stores.”

“A lot of people get down when they are unemployed,” he said. “They need to take that negative and make a positive out of it.”

Fisher said he’s lucky that people still fish, no matter what the economy’s like, and he’s given some local fishermen his lures to try.

Last year when he was trying them, he caught more than 40 crappie out of High Rock Lake, he said.

“It’s done really well,” he said. “I’m pretty pumped up for this fishing season.”

Fisher said fish caught with Lil’ Robbies are usually crappie, trout, sea trout, smallmouth bass, walleye and other fish that hit soft bait.

Lil’ Robbies are available at Tamarac Marina, Fleming Candy co., Highway 49 Sporting Goods, Carolina Print Works and Foothills Hunting and Fishing in Hudson, as well as online.

Fisher said a store in Pennsylvania is planning on picking up Lil’ Robbies because of the lures’ success with trout.

A bag containing 10 lures costs $1.89.

“I just want it to be cheap for people,” Fisher said, urging fishermen to go to the stores for their purchases, not only to support the local businesses but to cut down on shipping and handling rates.

Fisher said his wife has been supportive through his unemployment and business venture.

“Hopefully I won’t be so busy selling bait, and I will be able to fish,” Fisher said.

Cinderella? Not if you saw the 11th-seeded Huskies’ dissection of the third-seeded Lobos. There might be better stories, but there is only one team seeded lower than Washington left in the tournament. twelve seed Cornell takes its chances against Wisconsin on Sunday.

For only a fleeting moment were the Huskies not the biggest story in HP Pavilion on Saturday. The scoreboard posting of Kansas’ loss got the typical reaction: Shock and awe.

The rest of the time, Washington rocked the house. It’s hard to believe that a team with this much size, athleticism, speed and ability has been part of the Pac-10 sob story this season. they took out the Lobos like it was a back-alley mugging.

“They just kept on scoring,” New Mexico’s Ramon Martinez said. “We couldn’t respond in any way defensively or offensively.”

How bad was it? The shining example is Sherrer, a little-used walk-on scrub who had all of 15 minutes of playing time this season before getting in the final 1:26.

“Mostly, I’m in there banging away,” Sherrer said of practice, not the incredible run Washington is on.

The Huskies were so good that a kid who fought off viral meningitis this season was able to get quality, um, seconds.

“I saw him on campus and I thought he was still in the hospital,” teammate Elston Turner Jr. said of the meningitis that caused Sherrer to lose feeling in his left side. “I’m glad he’s back.”

it mattered. Washington has never lost this season when “The Human Victory Cigar” (that’s really his nickname) has played.

Actually, everybody’s back for Washington just in time to ask one serious question: what the hell has happened? this squad was somnambulant for large parts of the season. Before the Pac-10 tournament, an NCAA tournament berth was in question.

Now, winners of nine in a row, the Huskies are in the Sweet 16 for the third time in the last six seasons. They’re banging, defending, blocking, nearly flying in a season that looked lost a few weeks ago.

“That’s what our mentality is, just run up and down the floor,” Turner said. “We feel like no team in the country can run with us.”

this is a team that started the Pac-10 season 0-3. The conference season started with a loss to Oregon that prompted a players-only meeting called by guard Isaiah Thomas. The Huskies then went out and lost the next two.

and that wasn’t the lowest point. That came on the L.a. swing in January when Washington lost to UCLA and USC. it went on to be swept by the Trojans.

“The lowest point was when we lost to USC at their place [Jan. 23],” senior Quincy Pondexter said. “We were playing awful as a team. from then on we said, ‘No more.’ We didn’t want to go out like that. We were kind of getting laughed at nationally.”

The Huskies had plenty of company. The Pac-10 as a whole underachieved. There was a bit of West Coast pride in the locker room as the Huskies realized they had survived along with St. Mary’s and Cal.

The winner of Sunday’s Missouri-West Virginia game will have a surprise in store in next weekend’s East Regional. Matt Bryan-Amaning is a 6-foot-9, 240-pound block of granite scouted and brought over to the States from London. Thomas, a 5-8 sophomore, is fearless whether he is slashing or spotting up.

These Huskies will only go as far as Pondexter takes them. He already is an NBA talent, one of the best players in Washington history, according to coach Lorenzo Romar. his biggest contribution in the end might be staying at Montlake. Pondexter was part of the celebrated four-man 2006 recruiting class that had broken up by December 2007.

Spencer Hawes left after his freshman year for the NBA. Two other players transferred. as a senior, Pondexter has an NBA-ready power forward body with quick moves around the basket. Washington didn’t need all of his 30 minutes (18 points, five rebounds) but a case can be made for Pondexter being the San Jose pod’s most outstanding player. He hit the game-winning shot against Marquette and had 36 combined points in two games.

“In the age where it’s kind of a microwave way of thinking — ‘If I don’t get it right away, I’m out of here’ — he didn’t do that,” Romar said. “He stuck with it. It’s a great lesson in life. Evaluate yourself first.”

Now Washington is one of the few to last — to the second weekend.

“It’s the NCAA tournament,” Pondexter said, “you have no choice but to be consumed by it.”

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Whether it’s fomenting revolution or telling people what you had for breakfast microblogging service Twitter seems to have it all.

Now, New York City’s enterprising mobile food vendors are using the instant messaging website to help their hoards of hungry followers stay tuned to their favorite delicacies.

Kim Ima, owner of the Treats Truck, which serves up caramel creme sandwiches, sugar cookies with icing, and other diet busting delights, uses Twitter to stay in touch with her 3,000 fans.

“For someone like Kim with St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Wednesday, she wasn’t sure if she was going to park here. so with Twitter she was able to provide location updates and we knew where to find her,” said customer EJ Cory.

Twitter allows users to enter messages from a computer or mobile phone, which are instantly transmitted to other users who choose to read their “tweets.”

The service riles some, who say it encourages people to post irrelevant details about their daily lives, such as what they had for breakfast.

There are about 3,000 licensed food vending trucks in new York City, according the Street Vendor Project, representing a sizable niche for Twitter.

Kenny Lao parks his Rickshaw Dumpling truck next to the Treats Truck most Fridays. He has been tweeting since his truck first hit the streets for business and says Twitter is an ideal tool to keep in touch with his 5,000 followers.

“People really depend on us to be at certain locations on every day of the week and they get super-duper excited for dumpling day and this is the best way for us to tell them,” he said.

Twitter, founded in 2006, is free for its millions of users and its founders are still trying to turn the loss-making enterprise into a cash cow.

Last year Twitter hit the headlines for the role it played in helping demonstrators in Iran organize anti-government protests. the White House famously asked Twitter to delay scheduled maintenance during the protests so demonstrators could stay connected.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Rick Wilson passed Phil Parsons with two laps to go to outlast 11 other retired NASCAR drivers Saturday in an exhibition race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Wilson, best known as the driver who took over the No. 43 following Richard Petty’s 1992 retirement, dominated the race but lost the lead late to Parsons. Wilson passed Parsons shortly after a restart following a lengthy red-flag for a frightening accident between Charlie Glotzbach and Larry Pearson.

Pearson, the son of three-time NASCAR champion David Pearson, spun into the outside wall with five laps remaining. As his car slid down the banking, Glotzbach rounded Turn 2 and ran directly into Pearson’s driver-side door.

Glotzbach gingerly walked from his car, but the roof had to be cut off Pearson’s car. He was placed onto a stretcher, but was moving his arms as he was loaded into an ambulance.

Pearson, the winner of consecutive titles in what’s now called the Nationwide Series in 1986 and 1987, was immediately transported to Wellmont Regional Medical Center for further evaluation. Glotzbach, who won a caution-free Cup race at Bristol in 1971, was seen first in the infield care center before leaving for the same hospital.

David Pearson did not continue the race after he’s son’s accident. He drove his car off the track and stopped racing after the ambulance left so that he could travel to the hospital.

I get a lot of Android-related questions from my geek friends and the top one has to be, “What is the best Twitter client for Android?” A new unofficial Twitter app is launched every week on the Android Market, so my answer varies a lot.

Why doesn’t Twitter just release their own application? Facebook and MySpace both have native Android apps. Even Orkut got the native treatment from Google.

If you look at the recent actions and statements coming out of Twitter, they could be secretly planning an Android app. Actually, I think most of us would be shocked to learn that Twitter isn’t working on an app.

The story goes all the way back to last year when TechCrunch posted a leaked Twitter roadmap that gave us a preview of their future. it comes as no surprise really, but Twitter wants to rule the online world (like Facebook and Google) by becoming the first with a billion members so they can become the pulse of the planet.

If Twitter really wants to be the pulse of the planet, then location will be key. they updated their mobile site last year and turned on location in February. Based on what every other company is doing, a native application is the next logical step after creating a mobile site with location (See Buzz, Facebook, Foursquare, Gowalla, etc.).

Biz Stone, the Co-founder of Twitter, talked about the importance of location in a recent blog post.

“A recent burst of interest in location sharing applications, games, and services has many Twitter users excited about appending geographic data to some of their tweets. there are many ways location data can be useful when paired with tweets. People who choose to add this additional layer of context help make Twitter a richer information network for all of us—location data can make tweets more useful.”Biz StoneCo-founder of Twitter

Mr. Stone is correct when he says, “location data can make tweets more useful” but I think he really meant more valuable (as in $$$).

It is going to be awhile before we learn Twitter’s full monetization strategy, but location based ads (or just location data) are sure to play a key role. Twitter knows most of their users are tweeting from GPS-enabled mobile devices and they want to capture that valuable data. Developing a native Android application will allow Twitter to set the new benchmark for the Twitter experience.

Twitter also just announced their @anywhere framework (which is just a few lines of javascript) that could easily be ported to Android as an intent and tie in with countless other apps (Amazon, eBay, YouTube, digg) to expand their reach. just like Facebook, I bet we could see Twitter directly implemented into a future version of the Android operating system.

Does it sound plausible yet? Would you leave your favorite Twitter client to use the official app? I bet a million of you would at least try it.

Kansas, the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional and the top-ranked team in the National Collegiate Athletic Associationtournament, led for less than a minute in the entire game.

The Jayhawks’ defeat in Oklahoma City was the second majorupset today. Earlier, St. Mary’s College defeated second-seededVillanova University 75-68 in Providence, Rhode Island, toadvance to the regional semifinals for the first time since1959.

Fifth-seeded Butler rallied in the final 25 seconds to beatNo. 13 Murray State 54-52 in San Jose, California. Ronald Noredscored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs (30-4).

In Providence, J.P. Prince scored 18 points to lead sixth-seeded Tennessee to an 83-68 win over No. 14 seed Ohio.

St. Mary’s Omar Samhan scored 32 points to lead the 10th-seeded team (28-5). The Gaels upset No. 7 Richmond in the firstround.

“Nobody expected us to be in this situation when westarted the year,” St. Mary’s coach Randy Bennett said. “Maybethe guys did, but I think even they would admit we were a littleunsure.”

The Gaels held Villanova’s top three scorers –ScottieReynolds, Corey Fisher and Antonio Pena — to single digits ontheir way to the round of 16. St. Mary’s will play Baylor or OldDominion on March 26.

Demi Moore used Twitter to help stop a potential suicide.

Early Friday, a man near Orlando tweeted Moore with the disturbing message that he was “about to go hang” himself. “I have no reason to live anymore,” the man wrote, later adding, “No one cares if I die or not.”

Moore, whose @mrskutcher account has more than 2.5 million Twitter followers, quickly asked, “R U rlly asking 4 help?”

The man replied, “Yes.”

Moore’s rapid response and high visibility may have helped avert tragedy.

Actress Nia Vardalos (@NiaVardalos) also saw the man’s desperate tweet and alerted a suicide prevention hotline and Florida authorities.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says law enforcement received two phone calls from the West Coast reporting the suicide threat.

Deputies went to a home and took a (thankfully) uninjured juvenile male to a local hospital.

Moore and husband Ashton Kutcher are both very engaged in social media. Today it may have helped save a young life.
